Tour Description
Thanks to its unique location – surrounded by the emerald-blue, snow-capped peaks of the Zailiysky Alatau mountains, Almaty is a true jewel of Kazakhstan, an international tourist center. During the tour, you can visit:
- Republic Square – the main square of the city, the site of celebrations, parades, and public events. In the center of the square, the Independence Monument was erected in 1996, an 18-meter obelisk topped with a figure of a Saka warrior – a replica of the "Golden Warrior" with a winged leopard running alongside. The monument complex reflects key events in Kazakhstan’s history.
- Medeu High-Altitude Complex – Located 25 kilometers from Almaty at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level. The legendary skating rink with an artificial ice field, the powerful dam with breathtaking views, and steep mountains covered with dense pine forests are all unforgettable sights. The clear mountain air, birdsong, and nearly always bright sun will leave you with warm memories and colorful photographs of Medeu.
- 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park. There are three unique sites within the park:
- The first is the Cathedral – a wooden architectural monument built between 1904-1907 based on the design by architect A.P. Zenkov.
- The second is the Glory Memorial, erected in 1975 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
- The third is a wooden building housing the Republican Museum of Musical Instruments.
- Almaty City History Museum – One of the first city museums created in the post-Soviet era. Today, the museum’s collection contains about 35,000 exhibits, reflecting various aspects of the city’s history and the Zhetysu region.
- Kok-Tobe – A hilly area southeast of Almaty, 1,070 meters high. This place offers a panoramic view of the southern capital of Kazakhstan. It houses a radio and television station, recreational areas, and residential settlements. The slopes steeply descend 250-350 meters into river valleys.
- Palace of the Republic and Abai Square – Adjacent to Kok-Tobe is Abai Square with the Almaty Theater of Opera and Ballet and the famous Palace of the Republic. This is the venue for the highest level events – concerts of famous singers, national and foreign leaders. In front of the Palace of the Republic is a monument to Abai, the outstanding Kazakh poet, philosopher, and founder of Kazakh written literature.
